Q

What Hosting Package / Company Should I Use?

A

Wordpress Magic Content Wizard in particular is a fairly powerful piece of code, so there are some things to consider.

If you are using a shared hosting account, you are essentially sharing your websites' server with potentially hundreds if not thousands of other sites. This means that if the server is under load (particularly in peak traffic hours), Magic Content Wizard may appear to be slow, since the server only assigns it the CPU time it can afford, and if it's busy, it can't afford much.

This doesn't mean that you can't use shared hosting if you want to use Magic Content Wizard, but this is a consideration that you must keep in mind, especially because some hosting companies have specific terms regarding CPU usage. One hosting company in particular which we are aware of (JustHost) does not permit its clients to exceed 10% load on a shared server. Magic Content Wizard may need 10% or even a little more from time to time, so we recommend that you avoid JustHost's shared hosting option, or risk them suspending your account.

Hostgator is a leading and very well known hosting provider at the moment, and we use them for our sites too. To our knowledge they do not have a CPU usage limitation. We have received reports of "MySQL server has gone away" errors whilst using Magic Content Wizard on a Hostgator account, which implies that their servers are under strain (This is a server issue, not a Wordpress Magic bug), however this was some time ago and have not received any reports of that nature in some time now.

Problem Hosts identified which we recommend you avoid include:

  • WA Hosting
  • Rednine.com

The absolutely ideal option would be a VPS (virtual private server) or dedicated server. For most the dedicated server option is quite an expensive and technically-challenging. The happy medium may be a VPS.

For the most part, if you've got a shared hosting account already, are not with JustHost, and the hosting account meets the minimum requirements with regards to installed libraries etc, then generally you should not have any problem.
